In September 2022 the Banksia at Garden Village welcomed the first residents to our community. Sixty percent of apartments sold off the plan during the final phase of construction. A small number of beautifully apartments are currently open for private inspections.
“Our first new residents have already moved in to the boutique Retirement Living Apartments and are enjoying the benefits of the Garden Village community and the central Port Macquarie location,” said Garden Village CEO Mr Craig Wearne. “We’ve enjoyed our partnership with BESIX Watpac and local contractors to deliver this project for the community.”
BESIX Watpac NSW Northern Region Manager, Amos Frankel said The Banksia was a challenging and rewarding project to work on, with the construction team completing the project in 52,500 hours.
“Despite unrelenting inclement weather resulting a total of 182 wet days during construction and supply chain challenges, our team finished the build in August by procuring locally and diversifying our workforce, ” Amos said.
The Banksia project achieved 7.8% Indigenous participation during the build and the majority of contractors for this build were local, helping employment, growth and opportunities on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
“I am truly proud of what our project team has achieved in the past 18 months and the close working relationship we have with Garden Village and our subcontractors.
“Not only do these partnerships afford us the chance to once again deliver world-leading ageing in place environments, but gives us the chance to deliver on our values and hold ourselves accountable for excellence.”
The Banksia complements The Cascades Seniors Living Development also completed by BESIX Watpac in 2018, ensuring Garden Village continues to be well placed in the provision of contemporary Retirement Living options for the Port Macquarie community.
Highlights of the build include a large central skylight allowing natural light into the centre of the building, high quality finishes in the apartments, generous and well-designed common areas, welbeing centre and an outdoor communal area.
The Banksia is also completely energy self-sufficient, with a 99kw Solar System installed consisting of 270 panels installed on the roof and a 303kw/h battery power storage system installed in the basement to offset the entire house power demand as part of the build.
